Signs for April 30-May 6
Some of you have asked for a weekly breakdown of the moon’s phases and zodiac signs for the week so you can make your gardening plans. Here’s what’s up for this week beginning today, April 30, and continuing through Sunday, May 6. And it’s a dandy week for planting for sure!
The moon is in the light phase until the last 25 minutes of Saturday, 11:35 p.m. EDT to be precise. Thus through this week proceed with only light-moon activities and above-ground-producing veggie planting. Then beginning Sunday and until the new moon on May 20, only below-ground producing veggies and dark moon activities.
The zodiac signs find a series flowering signs beginning today and continuing through Friday, May 4. Virgo (the bowels) rules the first three of those days, Monday through Wednesday, with Libra (the reins) finishing it out the week on Thursday and Friday.
Saturday the moon moves to the dark phase (at 11:35 p.m.) so most of the day is under the influence of the light moon.
The sign May 5-7 – a WEEKEND – is Scorpio (the secrets). Most all of Derby Day will be with the light moon in force then Sunday and Monday, May 6-7 will be with the dark moon ruling.
Overview for May 2012
For those of you who like to have an advance look at what phase the moon’s in and what signs are in force, here’s an overview for the month of May.
Remember that all times given are Eastern Daylight Time. Just make adjustments for your time zone.
The moon
May begins and ends with the moon in the light phase when planting should focus on above-ground producers. The light moon is in force until 11:35 p.m. EDT. May 5 when the full moon comes into force and then returns to rule at 7:47 p.m. May 20 with the light moon returning and then continuing until June 4, 7:12 a.m.
When the light moon is in force proceed with only light-moon activities and planting above-ground producing veggies. Conversely, when the dark moon is in force (May 6 through most of May 20) it’s below-ground producers. Check the list below for other dark-moon activities.
The signs
Remember: Check to see if the moon is in the light or dark phase (information above) before proceeding with planting or other activities, indoors or out.
Fertile signs: the most fertile signs in the zodiac rule these days: May 5-7, Scorpio (the secrets); May 15-16, Pisces (the feet); May 19-20, Taurus (the neck); May 23-24, Cancer (the breast). There are nine days this month ruled by the fertile signs: Scorpio, Taurus, Pisces and Cancer.
Killing signs: No planting, transplanting, or dealing with things you want to thrive should occur on these days. Reserve them for cultivating, cleaning out fence rows – anything but planting: May 17-18, Aries (the head) and May 25-27, Leo, (the heart). There are five killing days, those ruled by either Aries or Leo. One unfortunate thing this month is the Leo days occur on Memorial Day weekend when people do a whole lot of planting.
So-so days: These aren’t particularly fertile nor destructive, just so-so: May 8-9, Sagittarius (the thighs); May 10-12, Capricorn (the knees); May 13-14, Aquarius (the legs). There are seven days in May ruled by the so-so signs: Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius. And since all seven of these days – coupled with a pair of Pisces (feet) days – this is another good, long, perfect time for making changes, nine days in fact. Read more about that below.
Flowering days: These are “bloom days” and well suited for planting your spring flowers as well as blooming things in the greenhouse or for the house – and there are a lot of them this month: May 1-2, 28-29, Virgo (the bowels); May 3-4, 30-31 Libra (the reins). There are eight days this month ruled by the two flowering signs, Virgo and Libra.
Gemini days: Gemini rules the arms and is in force on May 21-22. Gemini days are specifically “bean days” and these two days will be absolutely perfect since the moon is in the light phase and we all know beans produce above the ground. You won’t find two better days specifically suited for planting beans.
General tips
Again, here are a few general tips for activities other than planting:
>If you have gravel to pour on a drive or roadway, do that in the light of the moon so the gravel won’t sink. Same applies for stones on a garden path: Place them when the moon is in the light phase so they don’t sink. Check above for the right days.
>If you’re setting fence posts, do that in the light of the moon so the posts don’t sink.
>If you’re putting on a new shingle roof, do that when the moon’s in the dark phase so that the shingles stick down and don’t curl up on the ends.
>If you have changes to make like stopping smoking, starting a diet or exercise program, weaning small animals or children, scheduling elective surgery – anything that requires a change – here’s the formula: The moon in the dark phase and the signs going out of the body, past anything that “functions” so that means thighs, knees, legs and feet – Sagittarius through Pisces.
There are nine days this month that perfectly fit the formula, May 8-16.
