For those of you following the phases of the moon and signs of the zodiac, here’s March’s information. All times are Eastern Standard until March 8 when Daylight Saving Time returns!
Because I was late getting this posted, some days have already passed. Obviously, you can disregard them depending on the day this is finally up — and subtract them from the total for the month, too.
The moon
March begins and ends with the moon in the light phase. The light moon rules through the first 4½ days with the dark moon coming into force at 1:05 p.m. March 5.
The dark moon is then in force until 5:36 a.m. March 20 when the new moon returns on what will be the first day of Spring!
Then it’s back to light moon in force until 8:06 a.m. April 4.
“General Tips” for dark- and light-moon activities are below and if you are planting, it’s above-ground producers in the light moon and below-ground producers when the dark phase is in.
The signs
Remember: Check to see if the moon is in the light or dark phase (information above) before proceeding with planting, or other activities, indoors or out.
Fertile signs: The most fertile signs in the zodiac rule these days: Scorpio (the secrets), March 9-10; Pisces (the feet), March 18-19; Taurus (the neck), March 22-23; and Cancer (the breast), March 26-28. There are nine days this month ruled by the fertile signs —Scorpio Pisces, Taurus and Cancer.
Perhaps it’s just me since these zodiac things are fascinating, but Pisces and Taurus days occurred on the same days during the month of February — as do many of the other signs!
Killing signs: No planting, transplanting, or dealing with things you want to thrive should occur on these days. Reserve them for cultivating, cleaning out fencerows — anything but planting: Leo (the heart), March 1-3, 29-30 and Aries (the head), March 20-21 (same as in February). There are far too many killing days this month, seven in all ruled by either Leo or Aries this month.
So-so days: These aren’t particularly fertile nor destructive, just so-so: Sagittarius (the thighs), March 11-13; Capricorn (the knees), March 14-15; and Aquarius (the legs), March 16-17. There are seven days ruled by the three so-so signs.
Flowering days: These are “bloom days” and well suited for planting flowers. Virgo (the bowels) will rule March 4-5 and 31 and Libra (the reins) is up for March 6-8. There are six flowering days this month.
Gemini days: Gemini rules the arms and is in force March 24-25. Still a great time for planting peas with the moon in the light phase but, or course, way too early for bush beans.
General tips
Again, here are a few general tips for activities other than planting:
>If you have gravel to pour on a drive or roadway, do that in the light of the moon (check above). Same applies for stones on a garden path: Place them when the moon is in the light phase so they don’t sink.
>If you’re setting fence posts, do that in the light of the moon so the posts don’t sink.
>If you’re putting on a new shingle roof, do that when the moon’s in the dark phase so that the shingles stick down and don’t curl up on the ends.
>If you have changes to make like stopping smoking, starting a diet or exercise program, weaning small animals or children, scheduling elective surgery — anything that requires a change — here’s the formula: The moon in the dark phase and the signs going out of the body, past anything that “functions” so that means thighs, knees, legs and feet — Sagittarius through Pisces.
We have nine full days this month that fit the formula perfectly, March 11-19. The moon is in the dark phase until March 18 and the signs are going out of the body past anything that functions. Specifically, Sagittarius (the thighs), March 11-13; Capricorn (the knees), March 14-15; Aquarius (the legs), March 16-17 and Pisces (the feet) March 18-19.
